What Is Waller Creek For You? Part 1, aka Why should you have tea, scones crumpets and get your croquet on tomorrow.

Posted in Activities & Adventures In Waller Creek by Admin on September 25, 2009

Why should you have tea, scones crumpets and get your croquet on tomorrow?

Aside from the hope that you will be bringing a shrubbery, here’s why:

The nature of the project will be changing dramatically starting with crumpet consumption tomorrow. We’re really excited about this shift, which is going to radically move the project towards the original goal of functioning through the aggregate of small actions-

i.e.-

Just have time to stop by Waller Creek on Tuesday morning for a couple of minutes?

That’s great. Tweet on what you see, post it to the Facebook Group (and your profile) or on the blog by joining our group tweet and you have made a valid contribution.

Want to do an art project in Waller Creek? Fantastic. Do it. Take pictures, write a brief blurb and post it on the Facebook group and the blog.

The best advice the Waller Creek Is For Lovers Action And Adventure Society has for visitors, explorers and adventurers is:

Don’t walk in the tall grass in the middle of the creek. Why? Water mocassins.

Actually, we just saw one and nobody was ever in any true danger but it was a bit of a surprise. I am sure he (or she) was as scared as the rest of us because he skedadled (sp?) away from Jessie’s friend as quickly as he (or she) possibly could. We couldn’t find it again after this photograph. The Waller Creek Report: Waller Creek Is For Egg Salad And Red Swings

Wow. What a fantastic morning. The Waller Creek Action And Adventure Society can think of few things more enjoyable than eating brunch in a picturesque teeming creek bed with seventeen really entertaining people and working with the Red Swing Project to hang a swing over the creek. In the days leading up to Sunday’s event we were dubious about the conditions in the Creek given the massive amounts of rain but it was stunningly gorgeous and we couldn’t have been happier to find that it was still possible to eat ‘in’ the creek instead of being relegated to the path. That’s right, we brought a table, everyone showed up with a chair and then we ate brunch on the limestone creek bed. (more…)

I’m an individual coming alone, what should I bring?

  1. Twist the arm of at least one friend, neighbor or random person on the street.
  2. A chair for yourself- fancy or folding optional.
  3. A keen eye for possibility .
  4. A brunch treat/beverage of your choosing and the necessary utensils/tools for consuming said offering.
  5. Your best swinging pants (and I don’t mean those of the velvet or leather variety). (more…)

Members of WCIFLAAS scouted out the Creek this morning for the perfect location for consuming egg salad and doing a spot of swinging at this Sunday’s event. We think you will be pleased with the results and the planned festivities. Not only is the Creek is currently teaming with life given the past couple of days of showers but the Red Swing Project is going to be bringing a number of red swings along so we can find out whether Waller Creek really is a stellar place for swinging. The Waller Creek Report: September 10th at 9.38 am. Overcast, no pee smells, a guy named Boxer, abundant wildlife, lots of flotsam and remarkably pleasant under the 15th Street bridge.

Amazingly it didn’t smell like piss or guano (which apparently smell the same) today along the entirety of the path. The Red Swing Project and I traversed the full length of the path twice trying to decide on the best location for Sunday’s event, and actually found ourselves rather flummoxed choosing between two different locations. We were in fact really struck by the beauty of the Symphony space restaurant area and were saddened that we would probably be pushing way too many buttons trying to use it on this go-round. Along the way we did meet a rather incredible man named ‘Boxer’. (more…)

Members of the Waller Creek Is For Lovers Action And Adventure Society couldn’t be more pleased to be partnering with Andrew Danziger of the Red Swing Project for this Sunday’s brunch under or near a bridge in Waller Creek. Andrew’s project, better than most out there, lets people truly test and imagine how the use of our public spaces can be radically different through employing the simplest tools, and actions. Bravo Andrew and thanks for helping us re-imagine Waller Creek.
